Job Description The McElrone lab is recruiting a student researcher to assist our team in exploring photosynthetic physiology across wild relatives of walnut in the USDA-NCGR germplasm collection. The aim of this work is to identify accessions with potential to improve yields and stress tolerance (e.g. heat-waves and drought) in this cropping system through future scion and rootstock breeding programs. The incumbent will be responsible for gas exchange data collection, hyperspectral imaging and water potential measurements in the field at the Wolfskill Experimental Orchard in Winters, California. The incumbent will also work in the lab on tissue sample preparation for elemental and stable isotope determination, data analysis, and image processing. The student researcher will be supervised primarily by Dr. Momayyezi, a post-doc in the McElrone lab, but will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of researchers. This work will provide opportunities to contribute to research publications via data summary, figure development, and drafting sections of the manuscript.
