Company Description Dutton-Goldfield Winery is a partnership of grapegrower Steve Dutton and winemaker Dan Goldfield, focused on limited production bottlings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay primarily from the Russian River Valley. We are a growing, fast-paced winery that believes in working hard and playing hard, and if anything is worth doing, it’s worth doing all in. Dutton-Goldfield also offers custom crush services to a few select clients. This allows for greater exposure to varietals from around Sonoma County, and an opportunity to work with and be a part of a multitude of winemakers and styles.

Job Description We are seeking candidates for one specialty position with a hybrid lab/cellar focus to work closely with the winemaking team in carrying out a variety of hands-on winemaking tasks. This position will involve about 75% of the time in the lab, and 25% helping the cellar crew.

Lab duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Performing basic wet chemistry (pH, TA, VA, FSO2) & enzymatic analysis (RS, MA, NH3, Amino Acids)
• Monitoring tank and barrel fermentations (requires some barrel rack climbing)
• Tank/barrel sampling
• Assist in additions to tanks and barrels
• Yeast inoculations & nutrient additions
• Processing and recording grape maturity samples
• Proper handling, maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment
• Accurate lab record keeping

Cellar duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in receiving, sorting and processing fruit
• Fermentation management operations such as punchdowns, pumpovers & additions
• Transfer of juice and wine between tanks
• Barrel work such as cleaning, gassing, filling and topping
• Cleaning & sanitation
• Other cellar work as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:
• A passion for wine and great enthusiasm for crafting wines of exceptional quality
• Science degree, related coursework, and/or previous lab experience is preferred but not required
• Knowledge of basic chemistry
• Strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• At least 1-2 harvests prior experience
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

While candidates will ideally have prior experience, enthusiastic applicants without direct experience are encouraged to apply. A successful applicant will have a can-do attitude, ability to work well as part of a team or on one’s own, be prepared to get dirty and wet on a regular basis (the romance of winemaking), and possess a willingness to ask questions when directions are not crystal clear.

Other Information Applicants must be available to work the entire harvest season, from mid-August to mid-November, and should be prepared to work a variable schedule and extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Interns must be able to perform strenuous physical tasks, such as bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders on a regular basis.

Our winery is located within 15 minutes’ drive of downtown Santa Rosa.
